Enugu Smart School Project fake, says Governorship Aspirant Nnamani

By Myke Uzendu, Abuja

An Enugu State governorship aspirant, Samson Nnamani, has criticised the ongoing smart school initiative in the state, alleging that the project has failed to deliver the expected impact and describing it as “fake.”

Recall that the state governor Dr. Peter Mbah, while he was still a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) commenced an ambitious construction of smart schools and smart hospitals in the 260 wards across the state. He equally delved in reconstruction and expansion of major markets in the state as well as building modern smart motor parks in major cities across the state.

However, while assessing the performance of the state government after his governorship screening at the PDP Legacy House on Thursday in Abuja, Nnamani questioned the achievements of Gov. Mbah, particularly in the areas of smart schools, healthcare facilities, markets and motor park projects being implemented across the state.

The governorship hopeful alleged that the administration relied heavily on media publicity rather than practical achievements on the ground.

“The PDP is a party that rules through the media. But if you go down to Enugu, you will discover that the governor is not doing anything. He is only paying media people; that is his best,” he claimed.

Nnamani specifically targeted the smart school initiative, arguing that the programme was not meeting its intended objectives.

“The smart school is killing our children, and it’s damaging everywhere. The smart school is fake. It’s a fake project,” he said.

When asked whether he identified the alleged shortcomings while the governor was still in the PDP or after his political realignment, the aspirant maintained that the issues had always existed.

“It’s not that I didn’t see it before. I realised these projects were fake,” he stated.

According to him, the concerns surrounding the projects were visible and could be observed by residents across the state.

“It is not something that is hidden. You can see in Enugu State every day, every month, smart schools are collapsing,” he alleged.
