The House of Representatives has approved a N100.5 billion Promissory Note Programme to reimburse the Yobe State Government for the takeover of the Muhammadu Buhari International Cargo Airport, Damaturu, by the Federal Government.
The approval covers N100,509,017,234.55, representing the amount claimed by the state government and approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC).
The decision followed the consideration of a report by the House Committee on Aids, Loans and Debt Management, presented by its chairman, Hon. Abubakar Nalaraba, during the Committee of Supply at the National Assembly in Abuja on Wednesday.
Speaking with journalists after plenary, Nalaraba said the approval was granted after due diligence and a comprehensive oversight assessment of the airport project.
He explained that the reimbursement was intended to compensate the state government for the facility following its takeover by the Federal Government.
The approved amount, which stands at N100.5 billion, is expected to be settled through the Promissory Note Programme, in line with the amount endorsed by the Federal Executive Council.
The development underscores the House’s role in scrutinising government financial obligations and approving reimbursement arrangements arising from the transfer of state-owned infrastructure to the Federal Government.
