Vice President Kashim Shettima on Thursday led leaders and members of the All Progressives Congress in Borno State’s governorship primary election, which produced Engr. Mustapha Gubio as the party’s flagbearer for the 2027 governorship election.
The primary election, held in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, was attended by Governor Babagana Umara Zulum and other key stakeholders of the party.
Speaking at the event before departing for Abuja, Shettima urged party members to remain united and committed to the success of the APC ahead of the 2027 elections.
He called on members to “bury hatchets” and work collectively to secure victory for the party, stressing that the emergence of the governorship candidate reflected the APC’s determination to present credible leaders capable of delivering economic growth, improved security and development.
According to the Vice President, the exercise aligns with the broader vision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to reposition Nigeria for prosperity and sustainable progress.
“Whatever we do here is part of the broader agenda of the administration of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to ensure a better future for Nigeria and Nigerians,” Shettima said.
“The time has come to walk the talk, and only credible leaders can make this unfold into a pleasant reality for the citizens.”
Governor Zulum, in his remarks, thanked party stakeholders and supporters for their backing and endorsements throughout the process.
Gubio, who emerged unopposed at the primary, pledged to advance the development of Borno State if elected governor in 2027.
He promised to govern with the fear of God and sustain policies that would improve the welfare of the people.
Among those who attended the primary were APC Deputy National Chairman (North), Ali Bukar Dalori; Senator M. T. Monguno; Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan; Ambassador Baba Ahmed Jidda; members of the National Assembly; the Speaker and members of the Borno State House of Assembly; commissioners; and other APC stakeholders.
