From Maurice Okafor, Enugu
Comrade Godsown Odilichukwu Onuzulike, President of Potter’s Wheel Foundation, a non-governmental organisation (NGO) headquartered in Enugu, has emerged as the Chairman of the Council of Students’ Union Government Presidents, Enugu State (COSPEN).
Onuzulike was elected chairman following deliberations between Students’ Union Government leaders across Enugu State and the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) during their joint meeting held in Enugu on Tuesday, May 19, 2026.
The student leaders said they unanimously entrusted him with the mantle of leadership based on his experience, competence and capacity, citing the proverbial saying that the “reward for good work is more work.”
Through Potter’s Wheel Foundation, a non-profit NGO, Onuzulike has positively impacted the lives of children, youths and women across Nigeria through skills acquisition programmes, interventions and empowerment initiatives.
He is currently pursuing a second degree at Peaceland College of Education, Enugu, where he is studying Educational Management and Political Science.
Speaking after his emergence, Onuzulike assured student leaders who entrusted him with the responsibility that despite the short duration of his tenure, he would deliver meaningful results that would strengthen the organisation and advance the welfare of students.
As part of efforts to fulfil his promises, he disclosed plans to convene a conference of all former Students’ Union Government presidents from tertiary institutions across Enugu State.
He also announced plans to organise a one-day intensive leadership, entrepreneurship, practical skills and soft skills training programme for interested students in the 24 tertiary institutions across the state.
According to him, he intends to launch the first-ever COSPEN Quarterly Magazine, alongside initiatives aimed at promoting students’ welfare and intervention projects in tertiary institutions across Enugu State.
Prior to his emergence as COSPEN chairman, Onuzulike served as the Students’ Union Government President of Peaceland College of Education, where he has continued to demonstrate proactive, innovative and people-oriented leadership.
As SUG President, he organised the institution’s first-ever one-on-one interactive session between student leaders and the school management, creating an avenue for students to openly discuss pressing concerns and receive direct responses from the leadership.
The initiative reportedly yielded positive outcomes and strengthened communication within the institution.
His administration also facilitated the restoration of pipe-borne water to the college after more than seven years without regular supply.
The project further introduced a flow-meter system that enables students to pay only for the exact quantity of water consumed, thereby eliminating exploitative estimated billing practices.
Under his leadership, Peaceland College of Education hosted the national inauguration programme of the Education Students Association of Nigeria (ESAN). He also facilitated the establishment of the association’s chapter in the institution and launched a comprehensive monthly ESAN newsletter, which has been sustained consistently.
His academic and student-centred programmes have reportedly increased students’ enthusiasm for education while significantly enhancing the visibility and reputation of the institution.
In addition, through Potter’s Wheel Foundation, hostel students have continued to benefit from the distribution of sanitary pads since November last year. More recently, the foundation donated ₦500,000 to the Students’ Union Government to support indigent students within the institution.
