The Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) comprising state governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared that its members would not support or endorse candidates contesting elections on other political platforms in the 2027 general elections.
The governors also pledged to take charge of President Bola Tinubu’s re-election campaign in their respective states.
The position was reached at a high-level meeting of the forum on Monday night at the Imo State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja, where Chairman of the PGF and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, read the communique.
Uzodimma said the governors had unanimously resolved not to participate in, support or endorse any alliance or political arrangement capable of undermining Tinubu’s re-election, weakening the APC or adversely affecting the party’s candidates at any level.
He said: “The APC Governors Forum unanimously resolved that its members will not participate in, support or endorse any alliance or political arrangement capable of undermining the re-election of Mr President, weakening the APC or adversely affecting any candidate of the party at all levels.
“In other words, the forum has no intention to support any candidate at any level that is not an APC candidate because our candidates who are contesting the election are being sponsored by our party.”
The governors further resolved to align all levels of the APC campaign structure with Tinubu’s re-election bid and the strategic objectives of the ruling party.
The declaration comes against the backdrop of growing political activities around the “Rainbow Coalition” associated with Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, who has maintained that the coalition is committed to Tinubu’s re-election.
Wike, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, has nevertheless been linked to political activities involving politicians contesting under other party platforms. The development has raised concerns among some APC stakeholders that support for candidates outside the ruling party could create divided loyalty and weaken the APC’s electoral structure.
The APC governors warned against the emergence of parallel structures or arrangements that could create confusion among voters or compete with the party’s official campaign machinery.
Uzodimma said the governors’ campaign commitment would be “exclusively” to APC candidates, adding that the party’s campaign architecture at all levels would operate in line with the President’s re-election campaign and the broader objectives of the APC.
