Alia moves to revamp 23 general hospitals, expand Benue Links fleet

By Chiangi Avese, Makurdi

Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has announced plans to revamp the state’s 23 general hospitals with modern medical equipment and acquire additional vehicles for the state-owned transport company, Benue Links.

Alia said the interventions were aimed at improving access to quality healthcare and easing transportation difficulties faced by residents.

The governor disclosed this at the inauguration of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Door-to-Door Movement initiative for the 2027 elections in Benue State, organised by Chief Tompolo.

He said three containers of medical equipment had arrived in Lagos and were undergoing clearance, while more supplies were expected into the country.

According to him, the intervention would reduce the need for residents to travel long distances in search of quality medical care.

“The welfare of Benue people is the priority of my administration, and I assure the people that I will continue to deliver democratic dividends to their doorsteps,” Alia said.

On transportation, the governor said his administration was working to provide additional vehicles for Benue Links to ease the burden on commuters.

He recalled that the state had provided 100 buses to the company within the first 100 days of his administration to improve public transportation.

Alia also promised to establish more industries during a second term, describing industrial development as part of his strategy to strengthen the state’s economy.

He urged stakeholders in the Door-to-Door Movement to promote the message that everyone matters, while assuring that vehicles donated to the initiative would be put to judicious use.

The governor commended Tompolo for initiating the movement and called on Benue residents to support Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

Former Benue State Governor, Senator Gabriel Suswam, also urged Nigerians to return Tinubu to office, arguing that the President had initiated economic reforms whose benefits would extend to future generations.
