The Managing Director, Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), Engr. Nuruddeen Rafindadi, has assured Bauchi state government of the determination to give special attention to the rehabilitation and maintenance of federal roads in the state.
He also assured of assistance towards the establishment of Bauchi State Road Maintenance Agency.
Rafindadi spoke when the Governor of Bauchi State, Sen. Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, called on him in his office, at the Agency’s headquarters in Abuja.
According to the Agency’s Deputy Director/Head, Public Relations, Maryam Sanusi, the FERMA boss lamented the paucity of funds as a factor limiting the agency from keeping federal roads safe and motorable across the country.
Earlier, Governor Mohammed commended FERMA for the works done in his state, stressing that there has been improvement on the road sector, both in terms of maintenance and rehabilitation since the Managing Director assumed office.
He added that, “the State will not be ungrateful to FERMA as they have benefitted maximally from the tremendous work FERMA is doing on the federal roads that traverses the State”.
He expressed the challenges of influx of people from the neighbouring states as a result Boko Haram activities, pointing out that this has overstretched the road corridors and social services in the state.
He further highlighted Bauchi-Gombe-Alkaleri road as areas of concern as the Bauchi section of it has not been rehabilitated as against that of other sections of the road. Also of concern are the Kari-Misau-Yana-Kwanan Huguma road and Yashi-Duguri road.
