A socio-political group, Concerned Citizens of Like Minds, has rallied support for the former Governor of Zamfara State, Dr. Abdul’Aziz Abubakar Yari in his quest to become national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The AUTHORITY reports that the national convention of the APC is expected to take place in February 2022.
Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, PGF, and governor of Kebbi State, Atiku Bagudu, had disclosed the date of the natiional convention to State House correspondents after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Speaking on their decision to support Yari for the chairmanship position, the group Chairman, Auwal Dalhatu Sanni, said the erstwhile Governor of Zamfara State is the best for the job considering his previous achievements.
Auwal explained that there was economic boom and infrastructural transformation during his administration in Zamfara State.
He recalled that his colleagues labeled him as the best chairman that ever sat on the seat of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum looking as his capacity as a bridge builder.
“The reason why we think the former Governor, His Excellency Abdul’Aziz Abubakar Yari is best fit can be attributed to his previous achievements.
“If you look at Zamfara state, Abdul’Aziz has achieved economic boost despite environmental conditions of the state.
“He was able to execute projects that have necessitated infrastructural development in Zamfara state.
“Talking about him as the Chairman, Nigeria Governor’s Forum, His colleagues came together and labeled him as the best chairman that ever sat on the seat.
“So, we are more concerned about the giant strides he played in building the bridge between the southern, northern and eastern governors while serving in that capacity,” Auwal said.
The Chairman told the delegates that the time to take Nigeria to the next level is now and this can be achieved when the mantle of leadership is handed over to Yari.
He also revealed the intention of the group to ensure improvef social and economic dignity of Nigerians.
