Nasarawa state Youth Empowerment Scheme, a Nasarawa state government initiative established in 2014 by the previous administration of Governor UmaruTanko Al-Makura,has thrown its weight behind the IGP community policing initiative.
The general manager of the scheme, Mr AbdullahiLabaran made this known to journalists in his office in Lafia on Friday.
According to him the NAYES having gone through various stages of training and retraining of operatives facilitated by the Nigerian Security and Civil DefenseCorp (NSCDC), has been exposed to intricacies of crime fighting.
Labaran, who reeled out some key achievements which includes the arrest of two armed Fulani criminal elements who operate at imo state,rescuing of over 500 cows that were stolen from Taraba state and the recovery of some stolen items,said the culprits’ were handed over to the police for prosecution.
He added that the NAYES, based on the training so far received, would beavailable for incorporation when the community policing strategy takes effect.
In his word “NAYES operatives are experienced and have been active in crime fighting.
“The community policing initiative is a welcome development which we are looking forward to its commencement. If our service would be considered,we will, along the conventional securities, add to degrading of crime in the state,” he vowed.
Mr AbdullahiLabaran, decried the level of inadequacy of equipment, mobility and funding being the major challenges facing the scheme.
He however lauded the incumbent governor of Nassarawa State,Engineer AbdullahiA.Sule for his promise to support and ensure the vibrancy of the NAYES.
