The Chairman of Edo State governorship Campaign Council and Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike said that the threats by Gov. Ganduje to isolate him until election is over in Edo state was an exposure of his plans to isolate and prevent Edo electorates from freely exercising their franchise only to set them free after a concocted result has been announced.
Kano State governor, Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje had on Monday, while speaking with newsman at the National Secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) after the inauguration of the party’s campaign council said that he will isolate Gov. Wike who also chairs the PDP campaign in Edo state and release him after the election is concluded.
But Wike in his acceptance speech after the inauguration of the 93 member PDP campaign council restated his resolve to ensure that the party retains the state at the September 19, polls. He said that Gov. Ganduje just exposed their plans to frustrate voters from voting and defending their votes but assured that PDP will match their plots with equal resistance.
He said, “Let us understand the statement made by Ganjue, don’t look at it ordinarily. What Ganduje said is that they have concluded with security agencies to make sure that the people of Edo state do not protect and defend their votes, that they will not allow them to come out and before you know it, they will announce the result.
“He was telling Nigerians, we shall make sure that Edo people do not come out to vote, even if they vote, we will not allow them to protect and defend their votes.
Gov. Wike said that Ganduje was appointed to lead the campaign because the party is interested in his financial war chest.
“Why they made Ganduje the chairman of the campaign council is because of the dollar they saw. But for dollar, Ganduje could not have been made the chairman of the campaign council. But what he doesn’t understand is that we from the Niger Delta, we shall chop his dollar and we will chop him into comma. So Ganduje, your dollar will not work in Edo state, we have integrity in our party”, said Wike.
He also asked security agencies to resist the urge of participating in any form of electoral malpractices in Edo state, noting that PDP will not be intimidated by the antics of the APC.
Earlier in his remarks, National Chairman of PDP, Prince Uche Secondus said that the nation is bedevilled by a lot of vices ranging from political uncertainty, fear, tension, conspiracy of those in government, killings, manipulation of all kinds, rigging of election, as well as abuse of rule of law and arm twisting of judiciary, making it impossible for the electorate to express their franchise without prejudice.
He said that the negative campaign ran against the APC candidate in 2016 by former Chairman of APC, Adams Oshiomhole has provided them with enough campaign information.
Also in his remarks, Edo state governor, Godwin Obaseki thanked the party for accommodating him and his deputy when they were stranded and promised to continue to promote the ideals of the party.
