Some chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State, have berated the state’s caretaker chairman of the party, Ben Nwoye, over what they called illegal inauguration of the party’s ward executives, describing the action as a display of outright rascality.
Speaking to journalists, Chief Chris Ajodo Sunday Christopher described Nwoye as one poised to destroy Enugu APC, saying he will be shown the way out.
Ajodo questioned the rationale behind his action of swearing-in party’s ward executives when the original results was yet to be accepted by the Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) of the party.
He described Nwoye as a general without troops, adding that no leader of the party was with him in such an act.
He also accused Nwoye of working in tandem with the PDP with the aim of tying the party into a legal crisis so that the PDP could have a field day come 2023.
For her part, another prominent stakeholder and candidate of the APC for the Enugu East senatorial district in the 2019 elections, Princess Ada Ogbu, said the news of the inaugurating of Nwoye’s assumed winners of last Saturday’s ward congress was shocking and called for his severe sanctioned.
“The news of the purported inauguration of Dr. Ben Nwoye’s assumed winners of last Saturday’s ward congresses was most shocking. In the first place, the party made it clear that parallel congresses would not be tolerated but his action has made it clear that Dr. Nwoye not only conducted his own congresses, he announced his own results and even inaugurated his own executives, all by himself.
“He has shown an unbelievable depth of contempt for the party especially the caretaker chairman, and should be strongly sanctioned to serve as a deterrent for others who would expose the party to ridicule such as Dr. Nwoye has done,” Ogbu said.
Also speaking, Chinedu Jideofo-Ogbuagu berated Nwoye for appointing and inaugurating the five-man ward executives all over the state, including those from his ward who did not contest elections at the congress.
In a statement he described the action as worrisome and wondered if indeed Nwoye was not working with outsiders who had no good intentions for the party.
For Ifeanyi Nwoga, a one-time gubernatorial aspirant on the platform of the APC, the time had come for true members of the party to salvage the party from the likes of Nwoye.
He said that what happened on Tuesday in the name of an inauguration was shameful and it undermined the aspect of internal party democracy.
