Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu has described late Rear Admiral Ndubuisi Kanu as a man of excellence and character urging Nigerians youths to imbibe those rare values so that the country can attain the greatness we all desire.

The Minister made the disclosure over the weekend during the Night of Tribute in honour of the late Rear Admiral in Abuja.

Onu who was the first governor of Abia state where late Kanu hails from said that his live was an exhibition of justice, hard work and that he was a very principled personality.

“Late Admiral Ndubuisi Kanu was so humble. He loved excellence and where ever he found excellence, he stood by it.

“He was  a man of character. His life history should be made known all over the country because we want our younger people to know that character is important, that good behaviour is very important and that standing on principles can make a lot difference.

“On independence, the  whole world said that Nigeria is going to be one of the greatest nations on earth and we will still be. But there are certain values that made our fathers very great and those values are no more taking seriously as they were in the past. Admiral Ndubuisi Kanu represents those good values, the values of honesty, the values of hard work, the value of principle and the value of making sure that whenever you see your fellow human being, you will recognise the image of God Almighty in that person and show love to him or her.

“These are the values that we need to inculcate into our young people and they will lay the foundation for Nigeria to quickly get to where all of us want it to be” Onu stated.

Also in his tribute, Secretary of Imeobi Ohaneze Ndigbo FCT Chapter, Prof. Charles Nwokeaku said that late Kanu stood for justice, fairness and equity. He said that his desire to entrench justice and fairness in the country made him to join NADECO where he fought for the restoration of the mandate of late MKO Abilo the presumed winner of 1993 general election even as he was from another tribe.

He said that one of the wishes the deceased Rear Admiral was to work for the emergence of a president from the South East. He challenged all the politicians from the zone to strategically work for the fulfilment of that wish in all the political parties in the country.

“Ndubuisi Kanu could have done whatever it takes to ensure that the next President of Nigeria should come from the South East. Since we have  gathered here today and we are praising him, what lessons have we learnt?. It is to make sure that we move the frontiers of the struggle, the legacies he left behind – Justice, equity, fairness.

“He also believed in humility because he was quite unassuming and that’s why we in Ohaneze, in Imeobi, in Igbo Elders Consultative Forum, we have been saying without missing words that come 2023 the views of Ndubuisi Kanu and people like him must be respected and that it should be our turn and that in whatever party any person is, that will be the same case, if he were alive that is what he will do and that is what will make him happy, that we continue to fight for justice, fairness, equity. We have to be strategic, we have to be calculative and above all we have to go with wisdom” he said.

In his tribute, former Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) Gen. Azubuike  Ihejirika described the deaseased as a detribalised Nigerian who believed that justice and fairness should be upheld at all time.

Raymond Nkemdilim also pointed out his contributions in transforming Imo and Lagos states with well mapped out development master plan.

Some of the dignitaires at the event include Deputy governor of Abia State  Ude Oko Chukwu, HRM Ibe Nwosu Eze Igbo 1of Abuja, retire military officers and several traditional rulers.
