Why we organise DDZ football competition annually- Ejiga

Akwa United has won the 6th edition of Diye, Dadin Kowa Zarmaganda Old Stars Football Tournament in Jos, the Plateau State.

The aforementioned winner defeated Kwara United 2-0 to emerge victorious.

The teams that participated in the competition adopted the names of Nigeria Professional Football Leagues sides.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the event, Chairman, DDZ Old Stars 2022 Tournament Organising Committee, Isaac Ejiga said that this year’s tournament was the sixth in the series.

Ejiga said that the tournament usually holds during the summer break of European football leagues especially the English Premier League.

The chairman said that apart from uniting the people and keeping fit, it also assist the young ones.

According to him, “the essence of this competition for education, engaging youths, promoting physical fitness, promoting peaceful coexistence, among other positives.

He maintained that, the DDZ Old Timers paid common entrance fees for 15 pupils of RCM Primary School where the competition was played.

Meanwhile, Rivers United defeated Wikki Tourist in the third place match.

In his goodwill message, the gubernatorial candidate of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau State, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang has promised to complete Zaria Road ultra-modern Stadium started about over three decades ago if elected.

The governorship candidate who was represented by Arch. Samuel Jatau, said that he would make sports a big business on the Plateau.

He stated that sports is money spinning venture that could empower the youths and generate huge revenue for the state.

“The Zaria Road Ultra-modern Stadium would be my priority because it has every sports facility ranging from football to volleyball

“You will recall that the foundation for the stadium was over three decades ago the last PDP administration is the administration that took it to the level that it is today.

“And by the grace of God if PDP comes into power, we intend to complete what we have started.

“Apart from the revenue aspect, it would provide an avenue for the abundant talents on the Plateau to thrive.

“It would also help in our efforts to unite the people and promote peace and peaceful co-existence,” he said.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) deputy governorship candidate in the State, Pam Botmang said that the incoming APC administration would give special attention to youths in the state.

Pam Botmang encouraged youths to avoid things that would tarnish their future.

The Deputy governorship candidate said that next administration would dedicate 10 per cent of the state internally generated revenue for vulnerable group which youths were part of.

He said that apart from other empowerment initiatives, the funds would be used for the promotion of sports.

The Chairman Jos South Local Government, Mr Gideon Dandereng commended the organisers for putting together the tournament which he said has further united the people of area.

Dandereng who was represented by Mr Simon Dunkat, Leader, Jos South Legislative Arm promise to continue to promise sporting activities in the area.
