PDP Crises: Ayu to resign after 2023 election – BoT

The Board of Trustee (BoT) of the National Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has asked the embattled of the party’s Chairman, Sen. Iyorchia Ayu to make commitment to resign his position after the 2023 general election.

The BoT gave Ayu the soft landing in a communique issued at the end of its meeting held on Friday at the party’s headquarters in Abuja.

The meeting was held to consider the report of the BoT reconciliation meeting with all the aggrieved parties including govenor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state who is at the forefront for the replacement of the party’s chairman with a Southerner.

Reading the communique at the end of the meeting, acting chairman of the BoT, Sen. Adolphus Wabara called for a ceasefire among all waring factions and asked the National Chairman to make commitment that he will resign after the 2023 general election.

He called on the chairman of PDP governor’s forum to immediately convene an urgent meeting of PDP governors just as he called the party’s Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar to expand the campaign council list to be more inclusive.

“After the special Board of Trustee meeting, the following resolutions were reached

“To call on all Party leaders and persons close to them, to desist from making further inflammatory remarks or granting press interviews.

“To call call on the Chairmen of the PDP Governors Forum to convene a meeting of the PDP Governors Forum without further delay.

“To call on all the leaders of the party to match words with action and where commitments are made to unconditionally fulfill same.

“To urge the National Chairman as an eminent leader to give a firm assurance that he would resigns his position after the 2023 elections. In the same vein the BoT Chairman has been authorized to offer apologies unbehalf of all members who feel malign or aggrieved by the public statements made by its members across the country that has sharpen the current division in the party.

“To call on the presidential candidate to review its appointments of members of the campaign council and other advisory appointments to make it all inclusive” he said.

Earlier, the party’s Chairman thanked the BoT for their commitment in reconciling party members. He said that the National Working Committee (NWC) is working to ensure that the party wins the upcoming general election.

He said, “The NWC of which I am the chairman, is very desirous of having a united party. Since we came in, we have worked towards having a very united and effective party that can fight and win the forthcoming elections. In spite of the perceived crisis in the party, we have worked hard behind the scenes to bring about peace and reconciliation in the party.

“Many of us in the NWC have reached out to members of the party who are not happy and talked to them. We had series of meetings with them and we also felt that since the matter has not been completely resolved, The BoT as the conscience of the party, are advisors, made up of very responsible members of the party, should also add their voice to what is going on in the party.

It is on that note that NWC decided to invite the chairman of the BoT to put together the committee seek ways of bringing this reconciliation in the party. I’m happy that you have done just that”.
