From Cyriacus Nnaji, Lagos

It was a large turnout of participants as Lagos State University Directorate of Advancement (LASUDA) held its 9th free medical outreach at Badagry Town Hall, on Wednesday, 9th November, 2022.

Before the medical outreach commenced, close to one hundred inhabitants of the coastal town were already seated, waiting to be attended to.

In her opening Remarks, the Director, LASUDA, Prof. Yinka Okubena-Dipeolu told those in attendance that the Vice Chancellor, LASU, Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, holds the people of Badagry in high esteem, hence, the need to extend the medical outreach gesture to the people of the ancient town, as it had been done in several other communities across the state.

She enjoined those in attendance to invite their families, friends and neighbours, so that they too, could benefit from the free medical largesse.

“Health is wealth, please, invite your friends, families and neighbours to be part of this. The drugs are free, for all 400 targeted individuals we are reaching out to”, she stated.

The medical outreach programme, which is one in the very numerous people centred gesture of the Directorate afforded participants eye test, breast and cervical cancer screening, HIV screening, cough screening, blood pressure test and more.

She ended her speech by appreciating the Vice Chancellor, the two Royal fathers, who sent their representatives, the chairman, Badagry Local Government and attendees who made it to the venue of the medical outreach.

The Chairman, Badagry Local Government, ably represented by his Vice, Hon. Elizabeth Kappo in her speech applauded LASUDA for deeming the people of the town fit for such gesture. She believed such intervention would go a long way in putting smile on the faces of the beneficiaries.

The representative of Oba Akran, High Chief Micheal Avoseh enjoined those in attendance to take advantage of the free medical experience, on the premise of the popular saying that health is wealth. He appreciated the LASUDA team for the lofty programme.

With the remarks over, attention shifted to the medical checks and tests. About 250 people were attended to by the team of medical personnel on ground.

The medical outreach, which was the 9th in the series afforded attendees free drugs and about 100 free eye glasses to those of them who got prescriptions for eye glasses.

The two Assistant Directors, Dr. Funmi Ometan, Dr. Fatai Abiodun and other staff, from LASUDA were on hand to ensure the medical outreach was a success.
