Taraba farmers lament food shortage, crisis

The National president, Farmers Protection Association of Nigeria (FPAN), Dr. Ibrahim Bitrus, called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Taraba State Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas, to jointly address the ugly situation of food shortage affecting Taraba State and other parts of the country which led to the untold hardships.

Bitrus who doubles as the Taraba State chairman of the association, made the appeal during an interview in Jalingo.

He said the president had promised to transform the agriculture sector to boost food security in the country.
Ibrahim lamented that the subsidy removal had affected farmers negativelu, asking the government to proffer solutions to tackle the problem of food shortage in the country.

He advised the federal government to rehabilitate all fertilizer plants across the country, and make available fertilizer subsidy to farmers and also provide other farm equipments, to encourage irrigation farming system, rather than depending on just raining season farming, which he described as unhealthy for massive farm produce.
Ibrahim further disclosed that FPAN saddled with the responsibility of addressing issues affecting livestock and crops farmers, especially the regular crisis between herders and farmers in Nigeria would continue to do its best to curtail the crises.
