Plateau Attacks: VSF threatens to sanction erring contractors

By Pwanagba Agabus, Jos

The Victims Support Fund (VSF) has threaten to sanction erring contractors who may supply substandard relief materials or do jobs below approved specification against the ethics and values of the organisation.

VSF, a private sector led humanitarian intervention with interest in education support, livelihood and recovery, sanitation and water and hygiene, has Gen. TY Danjuma (rtd) as it’s chairman.

The warning was given by the

Special Assistant, Programmes and Operations, to the VSF chairman, Mrs. Toyosi Akerele-ogunsiji, at the commissioning of a 4,000 ltrs solar-powered borehole in Gassa community of Barkin Ladi LGA of Plateau State.

The boreholes are also sited in three other locations; Doruwa Babuje community in Barkin Ladi LGA, Ariri community in Bassa LGA and Sopp railway crossing community in Riyom LGA, at the cost of N28 million.

Akerele-ogunsiji said, “let me say something that Gen. Theophilus Danjuma (Rtd) has been passionate about, which is the integrity of this project.

“I’m sure some of you have heard in the media that palliative were to distributed to people, you’ve heard it, but you don’t see it.

“General Danjuma said that, it is not good to steal, especially from widows, orphans, the poor or internally displaced persons.

“So we must work with conscience when we are in previlleged positions and given responsibility,” she said.

In his remarks, the Executive Secretary, State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Mr. Sunday Abdu, thanked the organisation for the gesture it has been rendering in the affected communities.

Also speaking, a youth leader in the community, Luka Bot, while appreciating VSF for the gesture, recalled that, prior to bringing the borehole to the area, the major health challenge they were facing was rampant cases of typhoid fever, but with the availablity of portable water, that would reduce drastically.
