Ondo Assembly members support Aiyedatiwa for guber poll

The All Progressives Congress (APC) members in Ondo State House of Assembly have pledged their support for Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to pick the ticket for the party’s governorship primary election coming up next month.

Led by Speaker of the House of Assembly, Olamide Oladiji and his Deputy, Abayomi Akinruntan, the 22 lawmakers made their intention known when they stormed the party’s national headquarters in Abuja on Monday.

They told the national chairman of the party, Umar Ganduje, who received them, that Aiyedatiwa has been doing well since he succeeded the late governor  Rotimi Akeredolu, so they do not see any reason why the party should not support him pick the ticket for continuity sake.

They further declared that peace had returned to the party following the intervention of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Ganduje, following the earlier rejection of Aitedatiwa, then Deputy Governor, as they had accused him of working against the t he am ailing Akeredolu.

However declaring their unalloyed support for Gov Aiyedatiwa, the lawmakers said the issues that stoked crisis in the State APC has been resolved, pointing out that the governor has mobilized contractors to ensure completion of ongoing projects begun by the late governor Akeredolu.

Oladiji also disclosed that apart from mobilizing contractors to complete the o going projects initiated by Akeredolu, the governor has employed over 2,000 indigenes in critical sectors of the state public service, especially the education system.

On a recent letter by Ondo State APC Caucus in the National Assembly condemning the Governor, the state lawmakers said the accusations hold no water as they are coming from some “permanent residents” of Abuja.

According to him, “most of those who are making the allegation are permanent residents here. They are not abreast with what is going on in Ondo.

On the clamour of some political heavyweights like Jimoh Ibrahim, Olusola Oke to pick the APC ticket, the lawmakers said they would not want to join issues about peoples aspirations.

“We do not want to join issues with who is running for governor or not. All we are asking is for the campaign to go peacefully and for there to be decorum in the way we run and campaign for the position. 

“As far as some of us are concerned we do not want anything that will heat up the polity. Besides, we don’t want to lose the opportunity we have to retain power in the State as a party.”
