Easter: NSCDC deploys 35,000 personnel for hitch-free celebration

Commandant General (CG), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi has directed Zonal Commanders and State Commandants to ensure mass deployment of personnel across all the Zonal, State commands and Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as part of measures to ensure a hitch-free Easter celebration.

This was in a press release from the National Public Relations Officer, NSCDC National Headquarters, Abuja, Babawale Zaid Afolabi on Thursday.

The deployment, according to the release comprising officers and men with targeting no fewer than 35,000  personnel, is to provide watertight security before, during and after the festivity to protect lives and property including critical national assets and Infrastructure (CNAI).

In commemoration of Easter, the Federal Government through the Minister of Interior, Hon (Dr) Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has declared Friday, 29th March and Monday, 31st March 2024 as Public holidays to enable the Christian faithful to mark the crucifixion and resurrection of the Jesus Christ respectively.

Within the period, the Corps is to protect CNAI as well as the security of lives and safety of property in line with its mandate whether private or public in synergy with other security agencies.

Thus, the CG has tasked operatives in the Anti-vandal Unit, Special Intelligence Squad (CG’s SIS), Transport and Mining Marshals, Special Female Squad, Special Force, Special Weapon and Tactics (SWAT), Directorate of Intelligence and Investigation (DII), Crack Squad and Rapid Response Squad (RRS) amongst others to ensure round the clock surveillance as contained in the Operational Order.

While the deployment is to yield the desired result of maximum security through overt and covert operations, the CG reiterates that oil installations, Railway tracks, power and telecommunications, schools as well as recreational facilities should be adequately protected through surveillance.

Members of the public are also to support by giving useful and timely information on suspected acts and persons for prompt and appropriate response. The CG on behalf of top management, officers and men of the Corps, extends felicitation to Christians on the successful completion of Lent and Easter which mark the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ from death
