Anambra Guber: PDP fixes April 5 for primaries

Following the announcement by the independent National Electoral Commission that November 8, 2025 has been fixed for the conduct of the Anambra governorship election, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has slated April 5th for it governorship primary election.

In a Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the Anambra State 2025 Gubernatorial Election / Candidate Nomination released on Thursday and signed by the party’s National Organizing Secretary, Umar Bature, the party stated that Appeal on the governorship election will commence on Tuesday April 8 while certificates will be presented to the winners on Thursday April 10.

Other activities which will herald the primary election according to the release include: Sale of Nomination and Expression of Interest Forms which had commenced on Monday February 24th to Friday March 5th, 2025, screening of aspirants Tuesday March 11 and appeals on the screening exercise Friday March 14.

The party also slated ward congresses for the election of three-man ad-hoc delegates on Thursday March 20 to Friday March 21st, Ward congresses Tuesday March 25th and publication of delegates list Friday April 4th.

Anambra State was one of the states once controlled by the PDP when the new democratic order came into life in 1999 with late Dr. Chinwoke Mbadinuju as the first governor to fly the PDP flag after which Dr. Chris Ngige took over the mantle of leadership.

PDP had made concerted efforts to take back the state but failed due to internal wrangling over the control of the structure of the party.
