From Everest Ezihe, Owerri
Worried by the deplorable state of Umuaka -Isu Njaba express road and coupled with the socioeconomic importance of the road, Prof. Protus Nathan Uzorma has passionately appealed to Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State to rebuild the road as a precious parting birthday gift which he celebrated recently, amidst pomp and pageantry.
Uzorma made this passionate appeal at Julie’s Launja, New Owerri the venue of the historical birthday celebration and presentation of his 4th Public Lecture under the auspices of Prof. Uzorma Foundation for Justice and Equity in which over 1000 vulnerable Imo youths were empowered while addressing eminent Nigerians that graced the occasion.
He x-rayed the importance of the road which he said stretched from Umuaka-Isu-Ekwe-Umudugba-Mgbabo ano covering over 20 autonomous communities informing that the road for ages have remained the major life wire of people of the communities.
The globally reverred social crusader lamented over the impassable state of the major road describing it as, “an impassable death trap” that has also strangulated socioeconomic activities of his people.
“There’s nothing that I will value more in life as precious gift more than Governor Hope Uzodimma reconstruction and rehabilitation of this major road that have become a nightmare and curse to my people. Can you imagine more than 20 autonomous communities being locked up due to the deplorable conditions of this ancient road constructed by the colonial masters. I have good relationship with the Governor, I have never asked nor demanded anything from him, since the inception of his administration except the reconstruction and rehabilitation of this major entrance and exit route which is so dear me and my people. I will forever remain grateful and cherished it as a special birthday and parting gift from a dear friend and an ally”
Uzorma however commended Governor Uzodimma for his transformational governance especially in roads construction and rehabilitation noting that all roads built under his watch are built to last with good drainage system and solar empowered lights.
The Great Reformer as he is popularly known and called pointed out that all the previous administration of the State have been deceptive in managing the State finances especially as they constructed poor quality roads that were drains in the State resources.
The evergreen occasion also witnessed the unveiling of Prof. Uzorma Foundation for Justice and Equity, a non-governmental organization dedicated to promoting justice, equity, and empowerment in Nigeria.
With its various initiatives in the recent past, the foundation has made significant strides in putting smiles on the faces of people from diverse ethnic backgrounds across Nigeria.
The foundation’s initiatives include providing pro-bono legal assistance, securing the release of individuals imprisoned for minor offenses, rehabilitating them, and supporting vulnerable youths in acquiring skills.
