Insecurity: Gov Mbah appoints Didiugwu, Akimbamilayo to head Enugu State Forest Guard

From Maurice Okafor, Enugu

In a bid to strengthen security operations in Enugu state, Governor Peter Mbah has approved the appointment of Colonel Dan Didiugwu, a retired army officer and DCP Olamitisoji Akinbamilayo, PhD (rtd) as  chairman and  Commander of the Enugu State Forest Guard respectively.

A press statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, said the appointments which are subject to confirmation by the Enugu State House of Assembly are part of the State Government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen and professionalize forest and environmental security operations across Enugu State, in alignment with its commitment to safeguarding lives, property, and natural resources.

Prof. Onyia explained that the office of Commander of the Forest Guard supersedes the previously existing position of State Coordinator, which is now abolished.

He expressed confidence that the appointments will help in curtailing the problem of insecurity in Enugu state.

Part of the statement reads, “The State Government expresses confidence in the capacity and experience of both Colonel Didiugwu and DCP Akinbamilayo to reposition the Forest Guard into a highly responsive and efficient outfit.”
