Economic boost: Akpabio calls for stronger ties with Morocco

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has emphasized the need to deepen bilateral relations between Nigeria and Morocco, citing the potential for mutual economic benefits. During a courtesy visit from Moroccan Ambassador Moha Ouali Tagma on Wednesday, Akpabio highlighted the growing Nigeria’s economic potential and potential for investment.

The Senate President announced the formation of a Nigeria-Morocco Friendship Group in the National Assembly to strengthen the bond between the two countries. He noted that Morocco has become a significant partner for Nigeria in the economic sector, with substantial investments already underway, including a $1.5 billion fertilizer industry project in his state.

He expressed excitement about the progress of the gas pipeline project from Nigeria to Morocco, stating that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has overcome initial challenges. He emphasized the project’s potential to boost Nigeria’s gas exports and create employment opportunities.

The Senate President stressed that the deepening relationship between Nigeria and Morocco would be mutually beneficial, creating opportunities for investment, job creation, and economic growth. He extended an invitation to Moroccan investors to explore opportunities in Nigeria.

Moroccan Ambassador Moha Ouali Tagma thanked Akpabio for the warm reception and acknowledged the importance of strengthening relations between the two African nations. He invited the Nigerian Parliament to visit Morocco to further consolidate ties.
