Late Christian Chukwu for burial, August 16

The remains of the former Super Eagles Skipper, Christian Chukwu, aka Chairman, will be laid to rest, August 16, 2025 in his country home, Obe, Nkanu West local government area of Enugu State.

The burial date and funeral programme was released by a Central Planning Committee (CPC) set up by Enugu State Government, in collaboration with the family of the deceased following the demise of the late football legend.

The committee chaired by the Enugu State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Barr. Lloyd Ekweremadu, has Barr. Alexander Egbo as secretary.

The committee chairman, Barr. Ekweremadu, while confirming the preparedness of the state government said that the state was committed to honouring the memory of Chukwu, who he described as “a towering figure in Nigerian football whose exploits on and off the pitch will forever be celebrated.”

According to Ekweremadu, the committee wants all his admirers, fans, and associates to join in honouring the soccer legend, adding that Coach Chukwu’s legacy would continue to inspire generations of athletes and Nigerians alike.

The programme for the burial of Coach Chukwu fondly called “Chairman” is as follows:

On Sunday, 10th August 2025, will be Service of Songs at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, Trans-Ekulu, Enugu by 4:00PM – 6:00 PM, while Wednesday, 13th August 2025, will be Night of Tributes at International Conference Centre, Enugu by 4:00pm – 8:00pm

Thursday, 14th August 2025, will be Colloquium with tagged, “Life and Times of Christian Chukwu, the Chairman” at Enugu Sports Club, Enugu by 10:00am – 2:00pm

On Friday, 15th August 2025, Novelty Football Match in honour of Coach Chukwu will take place at Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu by 9:00am while Christian Wake will hold at his country home, Obe, Nkanu West LGA, Enugu State respectively.

The whole burial programme will culminate on Saturday, 16th August 2025, with Lying-in-State/Burial Ceremony at his country home, Obe, Nkanu West LGA by 9:00am Prompt.
