NSCDC ambushed in Edo, 8 operatives killed in gun duel

A devastating attack was launched against the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) operatives attached to BUA Cement Company in Okpella, Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State. On September 5, 2025, a gang of armed kidnappers ambushed the convoy of NSCDC operatives and Chinese expatriates during a routine patrol, sparking a 3-hour gun duel.

This w as contained in a press statement from CSC Babawale Afolabi, the Public Relations Officer, NSCDC Headquarters, Abuja on Saturday.

In the ambush, eight NSCDC operatives were killed, four were seriously injured, and are currently undergoing treatment and four Chinese expatriates were rescued, while one remains missing and is believed to have been abducted by the kidnappers.

The Corps has condemned the attack and reiterated its commitment to protecting critical national assets and infrastructure.

Reacting, the NSCDC Commandant General (CG), Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi has ordered the Edo State Commandant and other Management Staff Officers to pay condolences to the families of the fallen operatives and make arrangements for their burial with full honors. He also ordered that they ensured that the medical bills of the injured operatives be covered, and that they receive adequate treatment to facilitate their speedy recovery and. Audi however expressed gratitude to relevant security agencies collaborating with the NSCDC to comb the forest and rescue the abducted expatriate.

The NSCDC has assured the public that this incident will not deter the Corps from discharging its statutory mandate. The Commandant General has emphasized the Corps’ commitment to the welfare, safety, and care of its officers and men.
