A Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice Hauwa Yilwa, will today continue hearing on the demand by the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Chief Uche Nnaji to get the transcript of his results from the University of Nigeria, (UNN), Nsukka.
Chief Nnaji’s move to the court stems from the fact that his previous approaches to the institution over the years have failed.
Part of his pleas before the court is a mandamus compelling the university to release his transcript. Also a request prohibiting UNN and its officials from tampering with his academic records.
As a measure of fast tracking the process, Chief Nnaji’ joined both the Minister of Education and the National Universities Commission(NUC) in the suite against UNN, the University Registrar, among others.
Meanwhile, the double standard the UNN authorities have so far played on the issues surrounding the authenticity whether Chief Uche Nnaji, the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, passed through the Institution and his graduation is generating serious controversies.
On October 2nd, 2025, Prof Simon Ortuanya, the new Vice Chancellor of UNN, in his response to request from the Deputy Managing Editor, Premium Times for prove of Minister Uche Nnaji’s Certificate, disclosed that from the records,”Mr Geoffrey Uchechukwu Nnaji with Matriculation Number 1981/30725 was admitted into University of Nigeria Nsukka in 1981.
He stated further, “From every available records and information from University of Nigeria Nsukka, We are unable to confirm that Mr Geoffrey Uchechukwu Nnaji, the current Minister of Science and Technology, graduated from UNN in 1985,as there are no records of his completion of study in UNN”.
Two years back, precisely on December 21, 2023, a staff from the University of Nigeria Nsukka Registrar’s office,
Mrs I A.S Onyeador responded to a similar request from Mr Samuel Ogundipe of ‘People’s Gazette online Newspaper stating, “Mr Geoffrey Uchechukwu Nnaji with Registration Number 1981/30725 was admitted in 1981 to study Microbiology/Biochemistry in University of Nigeria Nsukka.
“Mr Geoffrey Uchechukwu Nnaji graduated from the University of Nigeria in July 1985 with Bachelor of Science in Microbiology/Biochemistry,Second Class(Hons) Lower Division”.
Seemingly, all eyes are on the Federal High Court Abuja to say the exact.
