The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has lost another member to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Hon. Daniel Amos, representing Jema’a/Sanga Federal Constituency of Kaduna State, formally defected to the APC on Wednesday.
Hon. Amos cited persistent internal crises and unresolved contradictions within the PDP as the reason for his defection. “We looked at the crisis in the PDP and decided to look for an alternative platform in the interest of our people,” he said.
With this defection, the APC’s membership in the House of Representatives now stands at 244, while the PDP has been reduced to 71 members. Other parties in the House include the Labour Party with 21 members, New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) with 15, All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) with 5, Action Democratic Party (ADC) with 1, Social Democratic Party (SDP) with 2, and Youth Progressive Party (YPP) with 1.
Hon. Amos commended the leadership of Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and Speaker Abbas Tajudeen for their focus on reforms, inclusivity, and good governance. He believes that aligning with the APC will benefit his constituents and enhance development in his constituency.
The lawmaker assured his constituents that his defection would not affect his commitment to effective representation and service delivery. “I believe that what we are doing is not only divine but something that all of us as a people will gather some day and thank God for the wisdom to take this decision at this time,” he said.
Speaker Abbas Tajudeen confirmed Hon. Amos’ defection during plenary, reading the notice on the floor of the House.
