The Berom Youth Moulders-Association (BYM) has condemned the killing of seven youths by armed Fulani elements at a mining site in Kuru District, Plateau State.
The victims, Dung Gyang (19), Weng Dung (26), Francis Paul (23), Samuel Peter (22), Dung Simon (28), Pam Dung (23), and Francis Markus (15), were engaged in legitimate livelihood activities.
BYM National President, Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri, described the act as “heinous and barbaric”, stating, “This dastardly act constitutes a gross violation of the sanctity of human life and represents a direct assault on the peace, security, and collective dignity of the Berom people.”
The association recalled the ambush and attack on Gyel District, which resulted in two deaths, and called for immediate investigation and prosecution of perpetrators ¹.
“The continued slaughter of innocent youths must not be allowed to persist,” BYM stated.
The group urged the Plateau State Government, Federal Government, and security agencies to reinforce security presence around vulnerable communities and mining locations, and adopt proactive, community-based security measures.
Rwang Tengwong, BYM National Publicity Secretary, signed the statement, reaffirming the association’s commitment to justice, peace, and defense of Berom lives and dignity.
