The Nigerian Senate on Wednesday confirmed Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as Minister of Power following their screening during plenary.
Both nominees were approved by the Committee of the Whole after lawmakers questioned them on their qualifications and proposed policy direction.
President Bola Tinubu had earlier forwarded their names to the Senate for confirmation in line with constitutional requirements. Senate President Godswill Akpabio read the presidential correspondence and referred the nominations to the committee for urgent consideration.
Enikanolaiye’s confirmation marks his return to a senior role in Nigeria’s foreign policy structure. The seasoned diplomat has held several international postings and previously occupied key positions within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Tegbe’s appointment comes at a critical time for the country’s power sector, which continues to grapple with grid instability and persistent infrastructure deficits.
He is expected to support the Tinubu administration’s ongoing reforms aimed at improving electricity supply and attracting private investment into the sector.
During screening, senators assessed the nominees’ technical competence and their plans to address challenges in their respective ministries before clearing them.
With the Senate’s approval, both officials are set to assume their ministerial responsibilities immediately as part of the broader cabinet adjustments under the Tinubu administration.
