By Chesa Chesa

A governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State, Commander Yilchini Jan Bida (Rtd), has expressed satisfaction with the party’s ongoing screening of aspirants in Abuja, describing the process as transparent and reflective of internal democracy.

Speaking with journalists shortly after his screening, Bida said the exercise demonstrated the APC’s commitment to providing a level playing field for all contestants. According to him, the process allows individuals with the capacity to contribute meaningfully to their states to participate freely in the electoral process.

The retired commander noted that the party leadership had shown fairness in the conduct of the screening, adding that such openness would strengthen confidence among party members and aspirants ahead of the primaries.

On his chances of emerging as the party’s candidate, Bida expressed strong optimism, hinging his confidence on the anticipated adoption of direct primaries. He said the approach would give party members the power to decide who flies the APC flag in the Plateau governorship race.

“I am confident that there is going to be a direct primary. The power has been handed over to the people to decide who becomes the governor,” he said, adding that he enjoys widespread support from the people of Plateau State.

Bida further stated that his supporters in the state were already celebrating his successful screening and were eagerly awaiting his return. He expressed hope that the momentum would translate into victory at the primaries and ultimately at the polls, with the goal of being sworn in as governor on May 29, 2027.
