By Chuks Oyema-Aziken

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Major General Adeyinka A. Fadewa (Rtd) as Special Adviser on Homeland Security, in a move aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s internal security coordination and enhancing intelligence-led responses to emerging threats.

The Presidency said the appointment reflects the administration’s commitment to deepening inter-agency collaboration, improving intelligence integration, and reinforcing the nation’s security architecture under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Head of Information and Public Relations, Chris Ugwuegbulam, disclosed that the appointment was contained in a circular signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. George Akume, and transmitted through the Office of the Permanent Secretary, General Services, Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana.

According to the statement, Major General Fadewa (Rtd) brings over three decades of experience in military and intelligence operations, with expertise in counter-terrorism, national security strategy, and intelligence coordination.

He previously served as Principal General Staff Officer to the National Security Adviser between 2015 and 2021, where he contributed to strengthening Nigeria’s intelligence coordination framework and supported the establishment of the Intelligence Fusion Centre at the Office of the National Security Adviser.

The centre enhances cooperation among key security agencies, including the Defence Intelligence Agency, National Intelligence Agency, Department of State Services, Nigeria Police Force, and the Armed Forces.

After retiring from active service, he worked as a Senior Research Fellow at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre, Abuja, focusing on security reform, policing, and civil-security relations. He is also the author of Policing and National Security in Nigeria.

President Tinubu expressed confidence that the appointment would strengthen homeland security coordination and improve proactive risk management across the country.
