Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have uncovered consignments of high-potency illicit drugs concealed in water purifier machines shipped from the Netherlands to Lagos.
The agency said the drugs, comprising three kilograms of ketamine and 199 grams of MDMA, commonly known as Ecstasy, were carefully hidden inside the machines and intercepted at a courier company in Lagos on May 26.
The seizure was part of ongoing efforts by the anti-narcotics agency to curb the trafficking of illicit substances into the country through international shipping channels.
In a related operation in Kaduna State, NDLEA operatives arrested a couple, Musa Sunday and Mercy Sunday, alongside another suspect, Salomi Ezekiel, 38, following the recovery of 100 jumbo bags of skunk weighing 1,246 kilograms.
The illicit drugs were reportedly seized from the suspects’ residence in the Gonin Gora area of Kaduna on May 24.
Also in Kaduna, NDLEA officers on patrol along the Abuja-Kaduna Highway at Jere intercepted a 30-year-old suspect, Sunusi Musa, allegedly transporting 380 rounds of military-grade 7.62mm ammunition to Katsina State.
The agency said the suspect and the recovered ammunition have been handed over to the appropriate security agency for further investigation and necessary action.
Meanwhile, in Niger State, NDLEA operatives acting on intelligence raided a warehouse at Gidan Kukah in Bosso Local Government Area, where 457 kilograms of skunk were recovered on May 27.
A suspect, Godwin Zakka, 46, was subsequently arrested at his residence in the Gbeganu area of Minna in connection with the seizure.
The agency said the operations underscore its determination to dismantle drug trafficking networks and prevent the circulation of illicit substances across the country.
Investigations into the various cases are ongoing, while the suspects are expected to face prosecution upon the conclusion of inquiries.
