Tinubu’s govt deploys digital monitoring dashboard to strengthen basic education oversight

By Felix Khanoba

The Federal Government has intensified efforts to advance President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda in the education sector with the deployment of a digital Monitoring Smart Boards Dashboard to the Federal Capital Territory Universal Basic Education Board (FCT UBEB), aimed at enhancing transparency, accountability, and data-driven decision-making in basic education administration.

A statement signed by Ikharo Attah -Special Adviser on Media and Communications to Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, said the initiative, powered by the Nigerian Education Data Infrastructure (NEDI) and implemented by the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Education, is expected to revolutionise school supervision by providing real-time access to critical education data.

Speaking during the handover ceremony in Abuja, the Director of Information and Communication Technology at the Federal Ministry of Education, Zainab Abukur, who represented the Minister of Education, said the deployment demonstrates the Federal Government’s commitment to translating the Renewed Hope Agenda into tangible improvements in education governance.

According to her, the dashboard will provide education administrators with immediate access to accurate and up-to-date information on school performance and operations, enabling more effective oversight without relying solely on routine physical inspections.

“The Monitoring Dashboard will display real-time data from NEDI, enabling education administrators to access accurate and up-to-date information on school performance and operations remotely,” Abukur said.

She added that the platform would support “faster, more informed, and evidence-based decision making,” while reducing the dependence on physical monitoring visits.

Abukur further noted that the adoption of digital tools reflects the administration’s determination to build a more transparent, efficient, and responsive education system focused on improving learning outcomes and strengthening accountability.

Receiving the dashboard on behalf of the FCT UBEB, Acting Chairman of the Board, Florence Wenegeme, described the initiative as a significant boost to ongoing reforms in the sector.

She said the intervention was both timely and strategic, noting that it would strengthen the board’s internal management systems and improve oversight of schools across the Federal Capital Territory.

“The platform will strengthen internal management systems, improve oversight of schools across the Federal Capital Territory, and enhance overall service delivery,” Wenegeme stated.

She also commended the Federal Government for sustaining reforms aimed at modernising education administration and leveraging technology to improve governance within the sector.

As part of the event, a technical team conducted a live demonstration of the dashboard, highlighting its monitoring capabilities and operational features designed to support seamless supervision and improved data management.
