As Nigerians commemorated Democracy Day against the backdrop of security concerns and other pressing national issues, members of the Green Assembly Initiative took to the streets of Abuja in a peaceful demonstration to express confidence in the country’s democratic journey and future prospects.
Addressing participants during the rally, the group’s leader, Ambassador Duke Alamboye, said he remains optimistic about the government’s resolve to address security challenges affecting various parts of the country.
According to him, efforts by the National Assembly to push forward the proposed state police framework demonstrate the administration’s commitment to improving the country’s security structure and protecting citizens and their property.
Alamboye further extended his sympathy to families of recently kidnapped students and teachers, assuring them that authorities are making concerted efforts to secure the victims’ freedom and return them safely to their families.
Speaking separately, Barry Avotu appealed to Nigerians, especially youths, to avoid circulating unverified reports and misleading information.
He stressed that the spread of misinformation weakens national cohesion and complicates the work of security operatives engaged in the fight against terrorism and banditry.
Avotu urged members of the public to confirm the authenticity of information before sharing it, while also encouraging support for security agencies working to restore peace and stability nationwide.
The demonstration ended with participants restating their dedication to national unity, peaceful coexistence, and backing initiatives designed to deepen democratic governance and improve security across Nigeria.
