The National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Samuel Anyanwu, has said women possess the capacity to reshape Nigeria’s political landscape and play a decisive role in determining the outcome of future elections.
Anyanwu stated this on Thursday in Abuja during the inauguration of the PDP National Youth Leadership Consultative Forum for the Survival of Democracy in Nigeria and the PDP Female Youth Wing at the party’s national secretariat, Wadata Plaza.
The PDP chieftain urged young women to take active interest in politics and leadership, stressing that the future of the country rests largely in their hands.
“Whatever a man can do, a woman can do even better,” Anyanwu declared, while encouraging female youths to pursue elective offices and leadership positions.
He noted that the era of attending political gatherings merely for social engagements was over, insisting that the focus should now be on purposeful participation and measurable results.
According to him, the PDP is committed to mentoring young women and creating opportunities for them to actively participate in governance and decision-making processes.
The former Imo State governorship candidate disclosed that the party was developing a structured mobilisation programme aimed at engaging at least 5,000 female youths in each state over the next three months.
He said the initiative would involve training, political orientation and the provision of tools such as laptops and mobile devices to strengthen grassroots mobilisation.
Anyanwu also urged female youths to leverage social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and WhatsApp to promote political awareness, civic engagement and democratic participation.
“Women are among the most effective mobilisers in politics. They are often more disciplined, focused and committed to achieving results,” he said.
He further encouraged young women to build networks, engage their peers and take advantage of opportunities within the political system rather than remaining passive observers.
Speaking earlier, the PDP National Youth Leader, Ambassador Ibrahim Bala-Aboki, said the inauguration of the National Youth Leadership Consultative Forum and the PDP Female Youth Wing was designed to reinvigorate the party’s youth constituency and strengthen grassroots mobilisation across the country.
According to him, the Consultative Forum comprises PDP zonal youth leaders, youth-focused civil society groups, media influencers, female youth advocates and grassroots mobilisers.
Bala-Aboki revealed that the newly inaugurated Female Youth Wing would operate through a directorate system at the national, state, local government and ward levels, with an estimated administrative network of 144,315 members nationwide.
He explained that when combined with the party’s male youth structures, the PDP would have an administrative youth network of approximately 288,630 members across the country.
The youth leader said the initiative was aimed at strengthening the PDP’s grassroots base and positioning the party for future electoral success.
He disclosed that all existing PDP support groups, student organisations and affiliated non-governmental organisations had been dissolved to allow for a fresh registration and revalidation process under a unified structure.
Bala-Aboki projected that if each executive member mobilises at least 20 voters within their communities, the party could build a support base of more than 10 million voters nationwide.
He also commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike, for what he described as his support for youth development and mobilisation within the PDP.
In her acceptance speech, Hon. Loveth Izekor, the National Coordinator said that PDP women are ready to stamp their feet, mobilize every household and ensure the party is victorious in 2027.
The event attracted party leaders, youth stakeholders, female political advocates and supporters from across the country, who pledged to work towards strengthening the PDP and advancing democratic participation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
