The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said the FCT Administration will not slow down on infrastructure delivery, insisting that project execution will continue until the end of President Bola Tinubu’s first term on May 29, 2027.
Wike stated this on Monday while inspecting ongoing road projects across the FCT, including the Apo–Karshi and Bwari–Kubwa roads.
He dismissed suggestions that the administration should begin winding down its activities.
The minister explained that the FCT Administration remains on course to complete between eight and 10 strategic road projects before the end of the year.
Wike said that contractors would continue to receive prompt funding to meet delivery deadlines.
He expressed satisfaction with the progress on the long-delayed Apo–Karshi road, originally awarded in 2010 but stalled for years before the contract was terminated and re-awarded to SCC Nigeria Limited.
According to him, the contractor has made remarkable progress since mobilisation, particularly with the installation of streetlights.
Wike also commended the host communities for their cooperation, describing their support as vital to the project’s steady progress.
At the Bwari–Kubwa road project, the minister acknowledged the difficult terrain but warned contractors against seeking extensions of the completion date, assuring them that funding would not pose any challenge.
He reiterated that the administration’s target is to complete between eight and 10 key road projects before the end of the year to improve connectivity and ease transportation across the nation’s capital.
He added that inspections of other ongoing projects across satellite towns would continue to ensure contractors adhere to approved specifications and deliver quality infrastructure on schedule.
“We have made promises to the people, and we must keep them. When the people have confidence in you, don’t allow that confidence to erode. They have seen it as a promise made and a promise fulfilled, and we will not let them down.
“Has the tenure of Mr. President ended? Certainly not. His first tenure will end precisely on May 29, 2027. If that is the case, it means that the work has also not ended,” Wike said.
