The Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC) has dismissed as fake a document circulating in the public domain seeking financial contributions for the production, printing and nationwide distribution of the Revised Basic Education Curriculum (BEC) for the 2026/2027 academic session.
In a disclaimer issued on Monday in Abuja, the Executive Secretary of NERDC, Professor Salisu Shehu, described the purported document as false, unauthorized and misleading.
The statement, personally signed by Shehu and made available to journalists, clarified that the Council had not authorised any letter or correspondence requesting financial assistance from institutions or organisations for the production, printing or distribution of the revised curriculum.
“Our attention has been drawn to fictitious and frivolous document and correspondences purported to emanate from the Nigerian Educational Research and Development council, requesting for financial support for the production, printing, and nationwide distribution of the Revised Basic Education Curriculum (BEC) covering 2026/2027 academic session.
“The Management of NERDC hereby strongly and unequivocally disclaims any document or correspondence, under any guise or arrangement, requesting support from any institution for the production, printing and distribution of the Revised Basic Education Curriculum (BEC),” part of the statement read.
The Council explained that comprehensive arrangements had already been concluded for the production, printing, dissemination and distribution of the revised curriculum through the appropriate federal and state education authorities, agencies and relevant departments.
Shehu urged government agencies, educational institutions, development partners, stakeholders and members of the public to disregard any correspondence claiming to originate from NERDC that seeks financial support for the curriculum exercise.
He reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to transparency and professionalism in its official communications, adding that it would continue to protect the credibility of Nigeria’s national curriculum.
The NERDC further assured stakeholders that all authentic updates and information relating to the Revised Basic Education Curriculum would only be released through its official communication channels.
