The Hallow Mace Africa Media Group has nominated the member representing Ehime Mbano/Ihitte Uboma/Obowo Federal Constituency of Imo State as the Most Outstanding member of the House of Representatives from the South-East zone for the year 2026.
Presenting the nomination letter to Okafor on Wednesday, the CEO of HallowMace Africa, Anderson Osiebe, told the lawmaker that he and other awardees emerged following a rigorous and transparent process that combined public online voting with extensive consultations with key parliamentary stakeholder groups, including the National Assembly Press Corps, the Nigerian Conference of Speakers, the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN), and the National Assembly Legislative Aides Forum (NASLAF)..
“We decided to look beyond bills and motions and to select lawmakers making impact in each of the six-geopolitical zones.
“We involved the public by asking to select from our finalists, the lawmakers who have been outstanding based on the three cardinal functions of the legislature. These include, lawmaking, oversight and representation.
“Based on the votes collated and the voting of critical stakeholder groups, for the South-East you came out tops”, the HallowMace CEO said.
In his response, Okafor, who is chairman of the House Committee on Nutrition and Food Security, expressed appreciation for the recognition, adding that it is a call to work harder to positively impact the lives of his constituents and Nigerians in general.
He opined that the National Assembly has played an integral role in fast-tracking economic growth and national development. This is even as he said the National Assembly has used the instrument of legislation to solve knotty national issues and promote unity since the return of democracy.
He said: “Today we have the Petroleum Industry Act, today the Six Geo-Political Zones each have a regional development commission, the Electoral Act, which has improved the confidence of the people, especially in them participating in elections, is a product of the National Assembly amending the Electoral Act.
“So, I think that the legislature has earned a place in the annals of history for ensuring that Nigeria has recorded its longest period of democracy, and it is clear that democracy has come to stay in Nigeria”.
Other nominees to be presented with various categories of awards at the National Legislative Awards, which is in its 10th edition, also include: Sen. Enyinnaya Abaribe, Senator Adams Oshiomole, Sen. Solomon Olamilekan, Sen. Opeyemi Bamidele, Hon. Inombek Awaji-Abiante and Hon. Bamidele Salam.
