The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) will commence its 2026 promotion examinations for more than 10,700 staff across 145 cadres on October 5.
The Chairman of the FCT Civil Service Commission, Mr.Emeka Eze, disclosed this on Wednesday, saying the exercise had been approved by the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.
Eze said the computer-based test (CBT) would hold at the National Open University of Nigeria, which he said that promotion would be based strictly on merit and available vacancies in line with the approved organogram and structure of the various agencies.
He said the Commission had concluded arrangements to ensure a smooth and hitch-free exercise, adding that the CBT format had become familiar to most FCT workers.
According to him, the exercise is part of efforts to clear outstanding promotion backlogs inherited by the Commission and restore the process to its proper annual cycle.
He added that staff who successfully participated in the 2025 promotion exercise had already received their promotion letters.
Eze urged eligible workers to prepare adequately for the examination and comply strictly with all instructions, warning them against bringing mobile phones into the examination halls.
He said candidates must come with their regulation and confirmation letters for identification.
The chairman explained that each candidate would have 45 minutes to complete the CBT, after which the system would automatically shut down and display the candidate’s result.
He also advised workers to improve their computer literacy, noting that the promotion examination would continue to be conducted electronically.
Eze assured candidates that the Commission had put measures in place to make the exercise transparent, competitive and seamless.
“Following the Honourable Minister’s approval and reconsideration, the 2026 promotion exercise for all FCT workers, totaling over 10,700 people across 145 cadres, will commence on October 5,” he said.
“Basically, with this, we would have cleared all the backlog of promotions we inherited, making it so that by 2027, we’ll only be conducting 2027 as and when due,” Eze said
