Reps press corps honours Tompolo for oil infrastructure protection

By Mercy Aikoye

The House of Representatives Press Corps has honoured High Chief Government Oweizide Ekemepulo, popularly known as Tompolo, for his contributions to protecting Nigeria’s oil and gas infrastructure and safeguarding critical national assets.

Tompolo, chairman of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, received the 2026 Award of Excellence in National Assets Protection in recognition of his role in supporting national security and economic development.

Presenting the honour to his representative, Hon. Donald Kimikanboh Ojogo, Chairman of the Press Corps, Gboyega Onadiran, commended Tompolo’s leadership and efforts to protect strategic infrastructure from threats that undermine the nation’s economic interests.

Tantita, which was engaged by the Federal Government to secure oil and gas pipelines and related facilities, plays a role in efforts to curb crude oil theft, pipeline vandalism and other forms of economic sabotage in the petroleum sector.

Securing the infrastructure is vital to sustaining oil production, protecting government revenue and strengthening Nigeria’s foreign exchange earnings.

Speaking on Tompolo’s behalf, Ojogo thanked the Press Corps for the recognition, saying his principal’s commitment extended beyond oil and gas facilities to environmental preservation and the promotion of peace.

“The same zeal with which he protects the national assets, the same zeal with which he protects the environment. The environment, as it is dear to him, is also an asset to all of us, even Nigerians,” he said.

Ojogo said Tompolo’s involvement in national development was driven by patriotism and a desire to contribute to the country’s stability, rather than economic considerations alone.

He added that Tompolo’s efforts demonstrated the capacity of Niger Delta stakeholders to contribute positively to national peace and development.

“A greater part of it is the patriotism and also to give a fresh breath of perception to our people that we are always agitators. But this is a man who has come to contribute to peace and development,” Ojogo said.

He expressed optimism that Tompolo would continue to support national development, praying for greater wisdom, strength and capacity for him to sustain his contributions to Nigeria and humanity.

Ojogo also reaffirmed his principal’s commitment to doing more for the country and thanked the Press Corps for acknowledging his efforts.

The recognition comes amid continuing efforts to protect Nigeria’s petroleum infrastructure, a key pillar of government revenue and economic stability.
