The opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has continued receive knocks following its decision to abandon the already existing zoning principle in the party ahead of the 2023 presidential election
The leadership of the Igbo apex socio cultural organizations, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, yesterday cautioned that it is unimaginable an against the principles of the nation’s emerging democratic culture if a Northern succeeds President Muhammadu, who himself is a Northerner in the 2023 presidential election.
Ohanaeze Ndigbo gave this caution against the backdrop of PDP’s decision to throw open it’s 2023 Presidential ticket, which constitutes a threat to the task of producing Nigerian Presidedent of Igbo extraction in 2023.
In a press statement issued Thursday in Enugu by the National Publicity Secretary of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Alex Ogbonia, Ohanaeze said that PDP is trying to sweep in murky water which eventually will lead to its demise.
However, He disclosed that since the Senator Iyorcha Ayu led National committee said the possibility of reaching a consensus within the party is not ruled out, the leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo will soon forward the name of the Igbo nation’s consensus candidate to the leadership of PDP, stating there is no going back on the Nigerian President of South East extraction project in 2023.

The Ohanaeze press statement read in parts, “Thanks, with respect to the resolution by the PDP: the position of the Southern and Middle Belt Leadership Forum, the Southern Governors Forum and indeed all the right thinking patriotic Nigerians is very clear: a Northerner must not hand over to a Northerner.
‘The PDP has a choice to make; nominate a Northerner and fail woefully and be buried with an epitaph “there once existed a treacherous political party which changed its goal post at the middle of the game.
“It is possible that Sen Iyorcha Ayu needed to throw the sale of the presidential forms open to fit into the current bourgeois democratic paradigm. Thats why the PDP resolution with respect to the zoning of presidential ticket added that consensus is not ruled out
“To this end, the Igbo will soon challenge the PDP with our consensus candidate. This project of a Nigerian President of South East extraction is a desideratum; no going back, a to be or not to be existentialism”.
Ohanaeze Ndigbo expressed optimism that the task of producing a Nigerian president of South East extraction will enjoy divine intervention from God, “just as David used a sling and stone to kill Goliath,the mighty warrior, as recorded in the Holy Bible.”
Ohanaeze stated,”Be reminded that just as God provided a David with a stone to kill Goliath, that God has not changed. This is a just cause and the David will surely come, how, I don’t know, but come, he must. And to the Igbo that run after presidential aspirants from other geopolitical zones, I will only add that history is replete with how a betrayer ends”.
