FCT Emergency department profiles flood victims in Agwan Hakimi

The Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Department (FEMD) has conducted post assessment and profiling of flood victims at Agwan Hakimi at Orozi in Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), last week.

Recall that heavy rain fall had last Friday, Friday at Agwan Hakimi in Orozi affected households in the area.

In statement issued by Acting Director, FEMD, Abdulrahaman Mohammed through Nkech Isa, Head, Public Affairs unit of the department on Thursday, said
the floods claimed one life, injured one person and destroyed over 10 houses and some farmlands.

The Team attributes the heavy floods in the area to a narrow culvert in the area and poor drainage systems.

It directed that the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) be communicated to re- construct the base of electricity pole destroyed by the floods and restore power to the area.

Mohammed has also directed that the Satellite Towns Development Department, STDD be communicated immediately to expand the narrow culvert to ensure free flow of water

In a related development, the FEMD is to carry out a post assessment of farmlands destroyed by floods last Week Friday at Yaba,Abaji Area Council.

The FEMD boss who noted that the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency,NIHSA, had warned of of heavy floods in the coming Weeks, appealed to residents living along the river banks to relocate.

He particularly noted rising water levels around the Road that links Yaba and Gulu in Lapai Local Government Area of Niger state .
Engr. Mohammed informed that he has opened channels of communication with the Etsu Yaba,Alhaji Yakubu Aliyu on the matter.

He appealed to residents to always use the 112 Emergency toll free number in the event of an emergency.
