The second stage of the Sen. Ede Dafinone Urhobo Language Competition, instituted in memory of Sen. Pius Akpor Ewherido has been hosted at the Faculty of Arts Complex, Site III, Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka.
A total of 100 participants, drawn from the preliminary stage, competed across three categories: primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions during the event which took place last Saturday.
At the end of this phase, 30 finalists will be selected to advance to the final round, scheduled for November 22, 2025, at the same venue.
The award ceremony for winners is slated to take place during the Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) Cultural Day Celebration in Uvwiamuge-Agbarho, in the first week of December 2025.
Organizer of the competition, Sen. Ede Dafinone (APC Delta Central) expressed his steadfastness in his commitment to advancing the teaching, learning, and everyday use of the Urhobo language, as part of ongoing efforts to preserve the Urhobo cultural heritage.
