The Police Command in Akwa Ibom has apprehended a notorious armed robbery suspect in Uyo metropolis, the Spokesman, DSP Timfon John has said.
John said in a statement in Uyo on Friday that the suspect was apprehended following a complaint from a member of the public.
The Police Public Relations Officer said that the complainant reported that she was robbed after joining a private vehicle along Uruan St. in Uyo metropolis
She said that the occupants of the private vehicle diverted to a different route, and robbed the complainant of her ATM card.
“She was compelled at gunpoint to disclose her ATM PIN. They forcefully escorted her to her residence where they ransacked her home and robbed her of N900,000 cash.
“The suspects further withdrew an additional N3.3 million from the complainant’s account through her ATM card,” she said.
John said that the command diligently went in search of members of the gang, and apprehended one them on Tuesday.
She said that in the course of investigation, three Point of Sales machines used for illegal withdrawals from victims were recovered from the suspect.
The police spokesman said that investigation was ongoing to track down the full network of the syndicate.
She urged members of the public to remain vigilant, and report suspicious movements around their neighbourhood to the police.
