A governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Taraba State, Senator Emmanuel Bwacha, has expressed concern over the state’s reported debt profile of over N1 trillion, vowing to unseat Governor Agbu Kefas in 2027.
Bwacha made the declaration on Tuesday night shortly after receiving his expression of interest and nomination forms, purchased by a group of youths under the aegis of Youth Vanguard in the state. He said the time had come to vote Governor Kefas out of office.
The former senator, who was also the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the 2023 election, lamented the rising poverty level in the state, noting that many citizens can no longer afford a square meal a day.
According to him, the three-year administration of Governor Agbu Kefas has been characterised by hardship, lack of transparency and accountability, unfulfilled promises, unnecessary foreign trips, and a complete absence of infrastructural development, among other governance challenges.
Bwacha further stated that the most troubling aspect is that the state’s future has been jeopardised, with its debt profile reportedly rising from N250 billion in 2023 to over a trillion naira.
“I call on the people to rise up and not make the mistake we made in 2023. Poverty does not know religion or tribe or political party. It hammers everyone caught in its web without mercy and discrimination. And so we must rise as one, reclaim our State and start the process of deliberately rebuilding for the sake of our children and generations yet unborn,” he said.
He also urged politicians in the state to abide by the rules of engagement and refrain from inflammatory remarks or actions that could trigger crises or violence.
