Prof. Abubakar Olanrewaju Sulaiman has announced his withdrawal from the Kwara State governorship race ahead of the forthcoming All Progressives Congress party primaries.
The announcement was made in a public letter addressed to the people of Kwara State, where he reflected on his motivations for contesting and the decision to step down.
In the letter, Sulaiman said his initial decision to seek the governorship was inspired by conversations with citizens across the state. He stated that those interactions revealed a shared hope among Kwarans for a safer, stronger, more united, and more prosperous Kwara State.
He explained that his ambition was not driven by personal gain, but by a sincere desire to contribute to the progress, unity, and development of the state. Sulaiman also acknowledged the encouragement, prayers, goodwill, and support he received from residents across Kwara North, Kwara South, and Kwara Central.
After extensive consultations and in light of recent developments, Sulaiman said he had decided to withdraw from the contest. He emphasized that the decision was not made lightly, adding that leadership should always be guided by wisdom, responsibility, and a commitment to the greater good.
Despite stepping down, the professor reaffirmed his belief in the future of Kwara State. He also restated his loyalty and commitment to the APC and to the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
As a loyal party member and stakeholder, Sulaiman pledged to remain committed to the success of the APC in the upcoming elections at all levels. He said he would continue to support efforts aimed at strengthening the party and advancing peace, unity, and progress in both Kwara State and Nigeria.
