Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze, has won the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) primary election for Ogbaru Two Constituency ahead of the 2027 polls, according to a press release from Emma Madu, SSA/Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker on Saturday.

The election was held on May 23, 2026, across all 10 electoral wards in the constituency.

According to the Returning Officer, Barrister Barnabas Kenere, Udeze polled 7,187 votes to defeat his challenger, Mr. Enebeli Afamefuna, who garnered 168 votes. Kenere declared Udeze the winner having scored the highest number of valid votes cast.

The primary was described as peaceful with a large turnout of APGA faithful. Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission were present to observe the process in the constituency.

In his reaction, Udeze thanked party members for the confidence reposed in him and pledged not to take the mandate for granted. He promised to continue working toward peace, unity, and development in Ogbaru, as well as improving the living standards of his constituents.

Udeze noted that his re-election bid had earlier received the endorsement of the people of Ogbaru Two, who cited his effective representation and efforts to project the image of the area and improve lives.

The result reaffirms Udeze’s position as APGA’s candidate for Ogbaru Two Constituency in the next House of Assembly election.
