Promote Collective Interest Of Peace, Unity, Progress — Former Bauchi Lawmaker

By George Coben, Bauchi

A former member of the Federal House of Representatives, Aminu Mohammed Danmalikin Bauchi, has called on Nigerians to champion the collective interest of peace, unity and progress for the growth and development of the country.

The Ex-lawmaker made the call in a statement issued in Bauchi against the backdrop of growing reactions to a viral report on alleged plans by President Ahmed Bola Tinubu to restructure the country.

Danmaliki who said that he initially shared the concerns of many Nigerians over such claims however, urged citizens to be wary of the dangers of heeding to unverified reports, as they can fuel distrust or deepen divisions.

The former legislator noted that while public concern over such issues was understandable, there was no credible evidence to support the claims, adding that the presidency had reportedly denied the existence of such proposal.

“However, it is important that we separate facts from emotions. The presidency has reportedly denied the existence of such proposal, and until credible evidence is presented, Nigerians should avoid conclusions that may unnecessarily heighten regional, religious, or political tensions,” he stressed.

He further urged them to distance themselves from inflammatory rhetorics capable of creating divisions among Nigerians, stressing that the country’s diversity remains one of its greatest strengths.

The former lawmaker harped on the need to verify information bordering on such serious issues like alleged move by the government to consider constitutional changes affecting the country’s name, legal system and federal structure before sharing it.

While advising citizens to engage in constructive dialogue on national issues, Danmaliki further counselled them to support peace, tolerance, and national cohesion, concluding that, “Nigeria’s diversity should remain a source of strength, not division.”
