The All Progressives Congress (APC) has disowned Mr. Abayomi Hunye following his purported declaration as the party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 Ogun State election, describing him as an impostor and a suspended member of the party.
In a statement signed by the APC National Secretary, Senator Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru, the party said Hunye’s declaration was “completely false, unauthorized and mischievous,” and intended to mislead the public.
The party said Hunye was suspended on April 7, 2026, following a petition from his ward, Tube Ward, in Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State.
According to the statement, the suspension was initiated by the ward executives, ratified by the Ipokia Local Government Area and formally approved by the Ogun State Working Committee before being communicated to the national headquarters.
The APC said the suspension followed allegations of “nefarious dealings” and “anti-party activities,” including actions allegedly injurious to the image of the party and capable of causing disaffection and division among its members. It consequently declared that Hunye lacked the legal and moral standing to represent the APC in any capacity.
The party reaffirmed Senator Adeola Solomon Olamilekan as its duly nominated governorship candidate for the 2027 Ogun State election, with Balogun Kudirat Abiodun as his running mate.
The APC said the duo emerged from the party’s validly conducted primary election and that their names and particulars had been uploaded to the relevant electoral portal in line with the Electoral Act, 2026, and the guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
It added that acknowledgement slips had been issued, confirming Olamilekan and Abiodun as the recognised APC flag bearers for the Ogun governorship election scheduled for January 2027.
The party warned individuals, groups and organisations against conducting political or financial transactions with Hunye under the guise of representing the APC. The party said it would not be liable for any financial losses, legal disputes or criminal liabilities arising from such dealings.
The APC further disclosed that it had directed its legal team to initiate contempt proceedings and lodge a formal complaint with relevant security agencies over what it described as “gross misrepresentation and impersonation.”
It also urged the media and members of the public to disregard publications, interviews or documents emanating from Hunye concerning the APC.
