As the newly elected council chairmen took oath of office in Ebonyi State, Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru has charged them to extend development and good governance to the grassroots.
Governor Nwifuru gave the charge on Tuesday at the Christian Ecumenical Centre, Abakaliki during the swearing-in ceremony of the 13 Council Chairmen and Vice Chairmen.
He averred “This action is unique, because we swore to obey the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria”.
The Governor, who explained the enormity of responsibilities of the council chairmen urged them to see it as a sacrifice and call to serve.
“The responsibility you swore to obey the constitution is huge and it is a thankless job.
“You swore to obey them, you swore to serve the people of your local government and you must continue to understand and serve the people of this great state”.
Insisting that the new chairmen must step down the party’s manifesto, policies, programs, and protect the interest of the party, the Ebonyi leader maintained
“As Local Government Chairmen, you must support , pray for and discuss our party, the APC.
“We will not leave any position for another party, we will win a hundred percent in all elections for our party, APC”.
To the Vice Chairmen, the Governor urged them to cooperate with the chairmen and carry out responsibilities assigned to them with diligence.
” You should respect the Chairmen and carry out responsibilities assigned to you. Don’t work against them.” The Governor advised.
